I'm the son of Western NC parents and a fan of bluegrass, old time, and Irish music. I love the Foxfire books and recently picked up Vol 3 in a used book store in Sylva, NC. I saw the mountain banjos section, and since I had picked up a cheap dulcimer at a thrift store a couple years ago, I decided to try to make a mountain-ish banjo. I am a hobbyist woodworker, wood carver, hunter, and a neophyte trapper, so I had the tools, materials, and skins already. I used mahogany, figured maple, oak, and antler. I learned alot and am planning my second build already. I cannot yet play but YouTube University is getting me started with some clawhammer.
