I've been currently building one, and am just about done with it. The neck is made out of poplar with a red oak center-strip, and the pot is poplar as well. So far, it's turned out better than I expected. I assembled it last night to see how the parts would fit, but it needs just a bit more sanding. I'm going to stain it, probably within the week, with a dark walnut stain. I also posted this on the Mountain Banjo thread that's been going, and I hope to get pictures up soon.
