For those of you visiting because you are curious about mountain banjos.........and thinking about making one......my advice is....do it! It's really fun and not hard. I'm new at it and I made mine with guidance from....the Foxfire 3 book....help from plans that Rudy has made available and input from the Amazing Mountain Banjo thread. You can use basic hand tools if that's all you've got and you can design it to your tastes. That was the whole idea behind it....people with little means used whatever was available and designed instruments that provided them with entertainment and the ability to make music.The materials will run you a fraction of the cost of even a "cheap" banjo and when you get done...you have a player and you built it!
