Hello out there! Although I have been teaching banjo and fiddle at the Suwannee Banjo Camp and the Suwannee Old-time Music Weekend in Florida for the last 5 years or so, this year will be my first visit to the Mars Hill Blue Ridge Old-Time week, where I will be teaching advanced clawhammer. I have been hearing great things about Mars Hill, so I am very excited to join the staff. My goal in establishing this group was to create a place where students, staff and anyone else interested could connect before camp to ask questions, make requests, give testimony, or swap tales.

A quick note about Old-Time banjo at Mars Hill: This year marks the 20^th Anniversary of the Mars Hill Blue Ridge Old-Time Week (June 5-11, 2011), and features a particularly rich set of offerings for old-time banjoists http://www.mhc.edu/oldtimemusic.

Classes are scheduled Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. until lunch, but the fun doesn’t end there! Workshops are offered after lunch, as well as formal and informal jam sessions. Evenings include concerts by instructors, special guests, and a very special student showcase at the end of the week!

No matter whether you are a beginner or far along on your banjo journey, with 5 separate banjo tracks, Mars Hill is likely to have something for you (fiddle, dulcimer, mandolin, guitar, and rhythm and repertoire classes are also being offered).
