Thought y'all might like to see what could done to a longneck back in the day. The 7 photos on the right show the added D-tuners, headstock 5th. peg, chromed pot, Braz neck, block MOP markers, zero fret, MOP truss rod cover, ODE sliding capo, integrated arch top, and truss rod.

The banjo was made for someone with the initials "M.T." and is in near mint condition. it is # 1590 and a model 33B, the "B" denoting custom features.

	boulderfolkie says: 5/27/2015 12:18:46 PM The only photo which shows it is the one of the whole banjo. A fret was placed just forward of the nut. think it has something to do with intonation. I'm sure someone will explain it to us soon 😊

	boulderfolkie says: 5/27/2015 12:37:08 PM The fifth string runs through a tube set into the neck from the 8th fret to the truss rod adjustment nut. It re-emerges through a small hole at the pointy end of the MOP truss rod cover. The Brits used that method on their 5-stringers and it takes some getting used to but makes sense as it makes playing up the next a lot easier.

David Moore says: 5/27/2015 1:29:46 PM Wayne Rogers of Gold Tone has sorta revived the "zero fret" from what I understand was fairly common on guitars in Europe back in the day. He has made arrangements with Martin guitars to put them on several of their instruments. I have one on one of my Docs and had one on a GT I sold. The theory is that the nut only guides the strings through the slots and there is a steel fret set in a shoulder between the nut and the fingerboard. The string rides on the steel fret and not on the bottom of the slot in the nut. Supposedly makes changing tuning easier and there is some discussion about changing the tone but I can't say I have heard any difference. Wayne's people are quite accomplished installing them and it wouldn't be scary to have it done to a high end instrument.
