long neck values

From john bange on 7/31/2014 8:27:24 AM

Seems like long neck banjos are slow selling right now. Theres a log jam of Gibson rb175's on ebay right now with a nice one selling for less than $500.  Some are listed under long neck, some under vintage and one, under baritone.

A Bacon at $300 in our classifieds has not been snapped up...(looks like it sold)...

A couple of Ode's hung around at auction for a month or two with one going to a group member, finally.

I wonder what Elderly took for the Gibson rb180 they were asking $2000 for.  The 4 Vega's that they have are still there.

The PS-5's seem to hold their value but even they are slow right now.

I had my rb175 up for sale but, the more I played it, the more I liked it so, it found a permenent home.  All I got were stupid low offers, anyway.

It looks like it's been sold
but the price for this one
seemed very reasonable to me
considering...

It was on their website far longer than I expected
it to be. Wonder who got it.

Bunch of rb175 ' s in classifieds too...and a really good Folklore. If it sits...it's really slow sales

put my Gibson back up for sale...getting offers that would not buy a Saga pony banjo. Mine is not original and has been refurbished with new parts so maybe everyone wants an original...however, there's an original condition RB175 on ebay right now in it's original Lifton hard case languishing at around 400$...The Folk Shop's folklore is the nicest one I've seen in years...it's sitting...
I'm gonna leave mine up for a couple of days and see what the other Gibson sells for. The last one I was watching went for 500$or so...it was nice too...

I think Vega Folklores and Gibson RB 175s are a hard sell. This is just my personal take on it, so take it for what it's worth, but a lot of people my age (folkies) lusted after a PS back in the 60s, but couldn't afford one. Some of us settled for the less expensive Folklore, RB 175, an Epiphone model, and there were a few ODEs. Now that we are older, what we will really pay for is a Dave Guard era PS, an Alex Hassliev Excel, maybe an RB 180. All of us watch these banjos come up on eBay, see how they go and communicate with one another when a good one comes up. This is probably the time to BUY a good one, not to SELL one.
