That seems a reasonable price. Makes me want one again, I sold one to a basic student back in the 60s and have regretted it ever since. Very different sound from my Seeger model but a good sound and nice to play. I wonder if the wife would notice another (7) banjo in the house......

That's it...nice early one. The Gibson on Ebay is mine. I thought I'd take a wacky at selling and buy the Ode if I did. There's not much long neck selling action out there right now...no big deal, I can live with the 2 I have...there's been 2 nice Ode long necks for sale lately. J

I don't think either one sold...I offered $800 plus freight for one and It was turned down. My RB175 is excellent and in a new case and less than others out there but no action. This Ode has been up for a couple of weeks at least.
Long necks just seem slow right now...even the Seeger's. In my opinion, the best buy out there right now is at Intermountain in SLC...Deering Vega long neck looks to be mint at good price but out of my price range...as usual

I am not an expert but it appears that the photos and the description do not match. It does not look like a 7 layer maple rim, it appears to be aluminum. I think there are several other errors but the seller says that the description was copied from some catalog or book. I would love this but the Treasury Secretary has the last say on this.

Ode made their longnecks with both the aluminum (very light!) pot and a laminated rim model. Don't know if they were produced at the sme time but I think the wooden pot was later on and a bit up-scale in the price. I've played the aluminum ones but never a wooden pot longneck so I don't have any first hand knowledge of how the play or sound, longneck that is. I have played a standard scale openback Ode but don't remember what model or year it was. I liked it.

Yes, I had the same thoughts as Wizofos. When I bought my Ode LN (#53) it was described on eBay as something else too. I bet the same thing happened with this current banjo -- someone copied the info from the Ode catalog in the case, which doesn't match the actual instrument. It's pretty easy for non-players to make this mistake. This one looks to be an original "Scroll peghead" Model 21. In those days the letter designated the quality, which was A, B and C, with A being the best; the letter is usually stamped on the neck. The number 2 is prolly the original serial number which would make it one of the very first, eh? From the pictures it seems to very definitely be one of those original and legendary Ode cast aluminum flathead pots without either the Ode Boulder name cast in it nor any ser#. I notice one of the pics shows the neck's 12 fret which has the small brass "tack" 5th string capo (filed off woodscrew) which was factory installed. That pretty much guarantees the authenticity. Interesting.

It even has an Ode bridge...never seen one before. I like the large, 5/16th closed end nuts. Only other closed end nuts I've seen were Vega 9/32's.
I'm not a fan of the Ode tail piece but it is very valuable.

Having played (and kept) numerous ODES and three Vega PS-5 longnecks since 1962, I finally settled on an OME longneck a few months ago. Swore I'd never give up the ODEs but the OME is the best ever, hands down. And besides, Chuck made all of 'em. :-) The ODEs are fine for at-home pickin' but the OME does the stage work. I do believe the ODE on eBay is a "bit" overpriced.

only one offer and 23 people(most likely the BHO long neck group) watching the Ode...I agree, it is overpriced...now if it was sitting in an original Lifton case rather that the cardboard box is come with or, some original Ode labeled planets or US pat. Rotomatics, might be a different story

Re the tuners: that LN is one of the first Odes, before Ogsbury had his own hardware. Those friction tuners were one of the choices you could specify when you ordered a banjo from Ode, I believe. (I'd love to tell the story of writing to Grover to see about replacing one of the Rotomatics on my LN - same model as one here - Grover denied they were original Rotomatics. Ah the story is too long to explain, but funny anyway.) Overpriced, yes. Less than a grand would seem more realistic?

I hade onr of the factory original (an option) Grovers on my Seeger LN break about four years ago and contacted Go-To (current owner) to see about a fix or replacement. Nice fellow allowed as how the ones I had were no longer made but sent a brand new set of the replacement Go-To tuners free of charge.
Not a funny story but nice customer service.
