Thanks for one comment.Is this group only about buying Ln deals,hunting them down or cases for LN?I thought there could be some interest in a Newbee,but it seems lacking....Hard to get enthused by so little interest in personal contact.Is this an unrealistic banjo idea?

	R.D. Eno says: 4/24/2014 9:37:49 AM Not entirely sure what you mean, Jeff, though you should expect a lot of conversation about the instrument(s) its(them)selve(s). The LN has a certain fetishistic appeal. Most of us came to it because that's what Pete Seeger played, and his charisma obviously percolated into the LN and imbued it with his inimitable charm. Now, much as Pete was loved, enthusiasm for the sing-along as social action has waned, and the more hard-edged banjo devotees -- both old-timey and bluegrass -- have turned either to grass-roots authenticity or crossover innovation (both of which Pete heartily endorsed), and the LN has become a symbol of old-left innocence and what-the-hell amateurism. The melodic clawhammer and Round Peak, new grass and classical, Koken and Arkin and Fleck and Liszt styles put a premium on practice and conscientious artistry, and the LN seems like something for PS wannabees to just wham away on to get people to join in the chorus. But the LN can liberate you from the constraints of style and tradition. Try putting extra-heavy John Hartford strings on the long neck, tuning down to D (without capo) and playing D tunes in G position, and G tunes in C position. Or, with standard strings, playing A tunes in C position. Check out Mark Nerenberg's videos on this site; he shows how to exploit the mellowness of the LN in its baritone splendor. Capo up and you're in high lonesome territory; capo off and you're down on the wharves and in the river valleys where the banjo first sidled into Afro-Anglo-American mass culture.
	Jeff Brady says: 4/24/2014 7:11:14 PM Hey guys,that's more like it.I made a long neck plectrum when I was 25.Loved.Some redneck oilfield trash went behind the band equiptment steped on it.I got my MM150 Ln a week before Pete died.Thought it as a sign that one seat opens at a time for LN's.The mm150 Ln is the first pattern model based on Pete's Vega Tubaphone..I am proud to be in the group of Ln players and yes,I like input.Where I live I am the only performing "decent" 5 string player.It is my intro into older age music,so Thanks you 2 for pushing my go button.
	raymond66 says: 5/22/2014 1:12:14 PM I just finished assembling two long necks with identical necks (Asian). One has a tube-a-phone tone ring and bracket band on a half inch maple rim the other has a stew-mac bluegrass tone ring with a Ricard made 3/4" maple rim and bracket band. I am still trying to figure out which one I like best. The one with the mastertone type tone ring is much heavier. Has anyone else ever put together a long neck with a mastertone type tone ring AND a vega type bracker band?
