Dtuners

From Dwert on 9/9/2024 1:00:10 PM

Just purchased Ephiphone long neck with Earl Scruggs dturners on 2nd and 3rd strings. What do I tune the dtuners to?

They change the pitch of the string. I believe they can be set to change the pitch by a half-step or a whole step. There should be a screw adjuster on each peg. Tune your long-neck (sans capo) to eBD#G#B, with the Scruggs pegs "off" (unengaged), which puts your top four strings in "D tuning" three half-steps down to the key of B (never mind the 5th string). Then engage the Scruggs pegs and adjust each one so that you wind up in eBEG#B or "G tuning" in the key of E, which means raising the 3rd string by one-half step and the 2nd string by a full step. But why on Earth would anyone want Scruggs (or Keith or Winnie) pegs on a long-neck? Just adds weight to the peghead and unbalances the instrument. But, oh, well.

Good question about why D-tuners on a long-neck. I got my RB-180 new in 1968 and it came with the D-tuners. A Gibson thing? The music store order?
