RIP Charles Osgood - CBS news reporter and long neck banjo player

From phdm on 1/28/2024 11:16:37 PM

Charles Osgood, the great CBS news reporter and host of many shows on CBS including Sunday Morning, was a talented musician, engaging writer of enjoyable doggerel , and enthusiastic musician, who played many instruments including the banjo. What many don't remember is that he was also a long neck banjo player and great admirer of Pete Seeger. He died this week at 91.

On Sunday Morning (tv show), they just did a nice story on Pete Seeger. Charles Osgood introduced the piece by playing a little bit of Seeger style on his long neck banjo!

Osgood seemed to be a wonderful and caring man. He will be missed.

I’m not sure how to post a photo to this site, but I have pasted onto my profile a screenshot of Charles Osgood playing his Vega long neck banjo with Tony Trischka and Bella Fleck in 2006.
