Greetings from Boulder Colorado, the home of the majestic Rocky Mountains and Ome and Ode Banjos. I just purchased a rare 1977 Rosewood Ome Juggernaut longneck - only 2 ever made - and I'm in the process of giving it a thorough cleaning, polishing all the metal parts, oiling the fretboard and changing the head and strings. I'll post some photos in case anyone's interested in seeing it.

I have 4 other banjos but this is my first longneck and while I'll probably capo up 3 just to see how it sounds and feels in G, I particularly want to learn to play it in open E tuning so I'm looking for tablature to play around with.

Any help, suggestions or pointers will be much appreciated and thanks.

	Claude Grassley says: 6/19/2021 4:28:44 PM I hope you enjoy it. I recently got a 1961 Ode Model 21 #42 and I absolutely love it. I love being able to play in E or F (albeit not often). The sound to me is incredible. I will probably never go back to a standards sized banjo.

Simplest way to use your long neck is to tune the banjo to open E (e, B, E, G#, B) and play tablature as if your on a standard neck. It will sound three steps lower. I use spikes at 11, 13 frets for the 5th string. If you use the chords for the key of C (ie: C, F, G) on that long neck you will be playing in the key of A! Pete Seeger’s book and video speaks of using the long neck. I often leave the long neck tuned to open E and use a standard neck banjo for keys of G. Saves on tuning. Also, You stretch a bit on the fretting when playing open on the long neck. Enjoy your new instrument.

While I like the sound, clawhammer style playing has never really appealed to me and up to now, I've been a hardcore 3-finger picker so I'm hoping that I can adapt those same skills to playing the longneck. 	Claude Grassley says: 6/30/2021 8:30:22 AM Tina, You don't have to play clawhammer on the longneck! I certainly don't try to learn 3-finger style when I play with my bluegrass friends! I've never been able to master 3-finger so I don't even try anymore.

I've finally figured out how to upload photos of this fantastic looking Ome Juggernaut LN onto my member profile so please check them out. I love all things Ome, especially Juggernauts, and live 5 miles from the Ome facilities. That loooong stretch is certainly a challenge but I'm continuing to work on it along with getting used to the new, different sound. Lemme have your thoughts sometime y'all and everyone take care.
