Steve Martin with a long neck banjo

From phdm on 9/18/2019 11:09:51 AM

Steve Martin with a long neck banjo -  just saw this photo as part of a recent news article in which Steve Martin is announcing that his annual banjo award may cease  to be due to the rise of so many great banjo players. I was drawn to the article because Steve is shown with a Deering remake of a Seeger Vega long neck banjo. Martin has been a great ambassador for banjos, and maybe he will play his long neck publicly and bring attention to our favorite instrument.

Here is the photo (I hope!)

As I recall, Martin played a longneck in his early days as a standup comedian.

Ah, I didn’t realize that. I actually saw him live a couple of times in the mid 1970’s, but I must have been laughing too hard to pay attention to the model of his banjos. Thanks.

I wonder if he plugs it into that Marshall amp behind him. ; - )

Yes, I was wondering what that amp was all about!

Lew, I saw him perform several times at a club where I worked in his early "Banjo-Magic Act" days. He used a vintage openback, but not a longneck. I can't remember what it was, though.

I think it's a publicity photo, Bluegrass fits his need for speed. Always a shortneck resonator banjo
