I've played the same 1910 Vega Whyte Laydie for 50 years. My other main instrument is an Alvarez Yairi 12-string that must be fretted firmly (despite excellent action) to get all notes sounding clearly.

So I visit a music store and play a banjo that is pulling notes sharp when I press the strings to the fingerboard!

The reason: fat frets.

Does anyone know of a modern banjo manufacturer who regularly uses thin/small frets?

	Nick A says: 12/7/2018 9:31:30 AM Hi Troy, I know that some of the Luthiers on this side of the pond offer what they call 'vintage style thin frets'. Since most of them seem to source their hardware from your side of the pond, someone over there must use them. I'm certain that someone closer will answer - in the meanwhile I hope this helps.
