Are medium gauge strings best for a longneck?

	kwfolk1 says: 2/24/2018 11:54:45 AM Can't say for sure. I however prefer light gauge even though I do play a lot of claw-hammer, as well as Pete Seeger's basic strum (up picking) augmented with a good deal of double-thumbing

	calypsojimmy says: 2/25/2018 9:06:23 PM In the "old days" I think most longneck-specific banjo strings fell into what now would pass for true medium gauge, and there always seems to be a tendency to assume that mediums might be the right way to go on longnecks. I have used mediums (for both picking and downpicking styles) on s Vega PS Longneck, and I've liked them. I have also used lighter gauge (like 10-23) sets and found them to be quite good for everything i play on 5-string longneck, and have loved them too. I second other opinions here.... just try some out & see what feels and sounds best for you. There are so many variables to play around with. Good Luck!
