any suggestions on where to buy? been looking at banjoteacher.com.
I dont seem to find many ads for used lefties. any suggestions on what to get (brand)? I like RK but they only seem to sell left hand in their higher end banjos. Im looking to spend around 600. Though i like Deering, i just havent fell in love. maybe its just they esthetics of them, plain looking. Locally, there isnt much, most lefties i would have to order.

Good luck with your search, it's much harder over here. I been hoping that RK would bring out the 35/36 in a lefty but nothing yet. Don't mind the Deering Sierre but need to save up a few new pennies first. Clancy Mullins is selling a brand new lefty in his classifieds but would like to look at it first.

You can order lefties easy, you won't really find a good selection right on the shelf, however. Depending on how much money you have to spend, Warren Yates, Arthur Hatfield, Frank Neat will all make you lefties, however not in your price range. Deering Sullivan, Gold Tone, RK, Gold Star also all make lefty versions that you can order online. Only one I know NOT making a lefty is Huber.
That being said it's tough to find a banjo you might "fall in Love" with considering your price range. However, that doesn't mean there are not very good banjos out there for that price.
I have a Lefty Gold-Tone BG-250FL, thought I bought from Ross Nickerson's website that is an excellent banjo considering the cost. In fact I am thinking of selling it to well, of course, finance another banjo purchase! I have upgraded it with a Presto tail Piece, new armrest, and new bridge. Probably will sell it for around $750. PM me if you are interested and I will be happy to tell you more about it.

Thanks guys for the tips. kaybone, i will let you know if im interested. The only reason i havent commit yet is because i recently had unexpected maintenance bills on my car along with our first child due in 6-7months. ive already been saving but just a small set back concerning the car. for me its really important to get something of quality and last a long time but doesnt brake the bank. i have actually looked at the bg250 and really like gold tone in general. i would like to get a RK, but the only lefty make as mentioned is way up in price. overall i have read good things on gold tone.

hey NP, my GT will be around for awhile I'm in no hurry to sell it.
But gee, you are living the dream! (3 full grown kids of my own) There is nothing I can say to you to describe the moment when you watch your first child breathe his first breath- incredible! It's like an instant connection with heaven the moment they are born and they breathe all that Oxygen in.
I can remember watching all my kids turn from blue to bright pink when they did! Congrats and all the Best to you with the new child.
Now the GT is a fine sounding banjo and the RKs are also- really good for the price and you would be happy with either. I will admit my GT does not sound like My Yates or Sullivan, but those are both 4K, plus banjos. But the RK or the GT will keep you happy for a good long while.

Thanks Mark for your kinds words and advice. you have me really looking forward to the future both with family and talents (learning banjo). i'll figure something out within a month or so and make the jump on what to get. when that bridge comes, i'll see if i can muster up the dinero and see where you stand on your GT. thanks agian, take care for now. fyi, love the avatar :-)

Gold Tone will sell you a lefty at no additional charge. I have a long neck Maple Classic that has really great tone, better than most other banjos under $2000. I paid under $1000 Canadian (about $800 US at today's exchange).
