What do you find hard about being a lefty?

Hi,

Just thought I'd throw this out there...

What do you find hard about being a lefty? Obviously we're collectively great, artistic, talented, etc :-) but I've seen various posters (here and on other music, etc forums) lament about the disadvantages of being part of the elite.

For banjoists, is it the lack of instrument choices, the reverse tabs/fingering, or something else?

Curious to see what others find as problems - if any.

I'm just starting out, so for me so far it's only every time I read in a book about "the right hand" doing something, having to think of it as the left hand and reversing the pictures in my mind.

Hope to see some opinions...

	ban-joe says: 4/2/2011 2:55:14 PM Having played for years right-handed and being forced to switch to playing left, the single biggest nuisance for me is when playing in a jam session to have my banjo neck sticking the wrong way when everyone else is oriented the same way. It takes up a bit more real estate and makes it awkward for players standing or sitting next to you. Sitting at home on the couch the only real difference is trying to reverse chord charts etc. but you get used to that. cheers all, Joe
	haydukepdx says: 4/2/2011 4:22:00 PM I think it's the little things. Finding instuments is challenging, but my wife got me a moon bridge for fathers day last year. You never think about the bridge being right or left, but that bridge was definitely a righty.
	ban-joe says: 4/2/2011 5:09:09 PM I agree about the bridge, I've got one good bridge that supposedly is a lefty, but I really can't tell the difference. Is it just how wide or deep the sting notch is for the fourth string?

The only difficulty (nuisance really) with banjo playing is if I have to write notes to myself while I'm practicing, I have to let go of the neck that I'm holding with my left hand in order to write left-handed. I've given the neck a bump or 3 doing that.
