Revised Tab With Fingering: Lilting Banshee

Years ago Tom Hanway asked why I didn't include picking fingering in my tab. My reason was I thought players experienced enough to play it would have their preferences. But I also realized it... Read More

Celtic tabs: Donnybrook Fair & Gallagher's Frolics

I posted these to the Hangout tab archive back in 2011. They both tend more to the melodic style rather than the Celtic three finger style as Tom describes it. But I think the melodies... Read More

The Polite Mechanicals - Childgrove
Linked by AllanJ 10 years ago: A tune from the 1701 edition of Playford's Dancing Master.

Tablature: Music for a Found Harmonium
Linked by Tom Hanway 10 years ago: Start with capo 2 for Irish Trad sessions because it begins and ends in the key of D. It's easy on the 5-string, and it’s a fabulous tune closer, a real crowd-pleaser. It works for Sharon Shannon.

Tablature: Anach Cuain (Irish slow air)
Linked by Tom Hanway 10 years ago: This arrangement is based on the sean-nós version sung by the lovely Dolly MacMahon. It's in the key signature of G, but that's misleading because it's A Dorian or D Mixolydian on the uilleann pipes.

MP3: Morgaine's Hornpipe - from Tom Hanway: Bucket of Bees (Celtic fingerstyle)
Linked by Tom Hanway 10 years ago: My first composition on banjo, a hornpipe from the Celtic Diaspora, came to me 30 years ago. I recorded it five years later for my first CD, Bucket of Bees (released in 1991).

Tablature: Devil's Dream (Bill Keith)
Linked by Tom Hanway 10 years ago: Bill Keith played this live at the Eagle Tavern in New York on March 20, 1988. Capo II to play in A.

Tablature: Rickett's Hornpipe
Linked by Tom Hanway 10 years ago: This is for Bill Keith (RIP), my hero, friend and mentor. Here is a legato arrangement in Celtic Fingerstyle (G tuning, no capo).
