Different bridge

From BobbyE on 7/21/2016 6:39:27 AM

I am the proud owner of a 3 month old Hatfield Buck Creek banjo which is wearing one of Arthur's compensated bridges.  The intonation is real good with this bridge but was wondering if anyone had one of Arthur's compensated bridges originally on their Hatfield banjo, tried a regular standard bridge, and what the results were?  I have several brands of bridges I could swap out, and one coming, just wondering what the results were as far as compensation with the standard bridge?  Know tone might change but tone is subjective so not really interested in what bridge swap did for tone.  Thanks all.

BobbyE--I have tried several Crow spacing bridges on my Celebrety & the one I have used for the last 18 months is a Roasted Maple from First Quality. I bought 3 of them & all were slightly different in tone. These are not compensated & I have not had a problem with intonation

What a coincidence, Bob! I just traded a McPeake bridge I have never used for a Sullivan Roasted Maple Bridge 5/8ths standard that should be here in a few days. Sure will swap them out to see what it does to tuning and also tone. Might try some of my other bridges now as well. Thanks for the response.

I've also used the Sullivan Roasted Maple bridges and like the crisp pop, but also like the Snuffy Smith bridges of my Hatfield. I swap around a lot between the three ( Sullivan, Smith & Hatfield) as the seasons change the tone of my banjos slightly. Our area of North Carolina is a rain forest, and so my banjos change a lot, whereas in Florida they never did.
Cheers
