Buck Creek

From ez2cy on 12/25/2015 6:36:56 AM

First off, Merry Christmas to you all.

I received my Buck Creek about 9 weeks ago.  Very much enjoy playing it.  More important is my wife just loves the sound of it.

Question for those of you that have a Hatfield for sometime.  Have you all stayed with the original bridge or changed it out?  Also, what types of strings have found best with the Hatfield?

I would stay with the bridge Arthur put on there,I've watched him put 3 or more different bridges on each new banjo to get the best tone for that banjo,The bridge makes a huge difference. If you've had your banjo for 9 weeks it might need the head tightened if you haven't already. I've had several of Arthur's banjos, they all sounded best with the bridge he put on originally .Enjoy your Buckcreek. Phil

ditto BanjoPhil! I've had my banjo back to Art after a couple years of my heavy left hand - needed the lower frets replaced. Art looked the banjo over, and basically said, "that's all she needed." A tweak on the head tightening screws every once in a while is rouitine maintenance.

Merry Christmas to all!

I've had my Buckcreek a couple of years and I haven't changed the bridge and I use Arthur's custom string sets. If a person likes to tinker then a Hatfield may not be the best choice. Arthur made it sound the best he knows how and that's good enough for me. (Sounds like a song title Ha!)

I agree with Phil. My Buck Creek is from December2007 and I have tried other bridges but always come back to the original. As for strings, I use Arthur's sets on all my banjos and have never felt a need for change. Bill

So I guess I have to order a bunch of strings from Arthur then. I don't want to tinker, was just curious.

I've got a buzz in my 3rd string. Arthur says it may be just because it's new. I never thought of tightening head, but not sure that is it. I've been playing it a couple of hours a day (atleast) since I got it. I've never been sure when to change strings. I've heard so many different opinions. Why I came here, to hear from people that have Hatfields. Thanks folks.

I've had my Special for almost a year now, and it sounds better than ever. On the grounds of "if it ain't broke . . ." I'm not going to fool around with the bridge.
