Buck Creek Light Strings

From glendart on 6/29/2019 4:28:48 AM

New Hatfield Buck Creek banjo owner here. Trying to get used to the custom medium strings but feel i want to go to lights because that's what Im used to. Anyone else using lights?

Welcome and congratulations on your Hatfield Buckcreek. I prefer lights as well. I use GHS JD Crowe medium lights I think it’s 9.5, 10, 12, 20, 9.5 and it works well with Arthur’s Banjo. I currently using a GHS PF 170 because it has a 13 on the third but not really sure about the sound some days I like them and most I don’t. Hope you enjoy your Buckcreek and as you know Arthur is the best in the business but truly a genuine person. It’s a pleasure to live just down the road from him, I just think him and his banjos are awesome. Anyway enjoy !!!

Oh I'm absolutely in love with it. I leave it sitting around when I'm not playing it just so I can look at it. Meeting Arthur was a real pleasure and I hope you get to meet him soon. And yes , buying a Hatfield banjo could lead to severe BAS. Perhaps he should put a warning on the shop door!

Well, I decided to put the light strings on and I can see the pros and cons to both gauges. I like the feel of the lights but the heavier customs might just sound better. So who knows what I'll settle on? Time will tell I suppose.
