How many of you own two or more Hatfields? In retrospect, are you glad with your decision to own more than one, or do you now feel that you bought the same banjo multiple times?

I have a Hatfield Stonycreek that I have owned twice. I sold it a couple years ago and then bought it back from a buddy that took it in on trade. I’m happy to have it back and it’s cutrently the banjo that I’m playing on shows etc.

Charlie, I'm wondering about those who may own two or more different Hatfields but regret the subsequent purchase because it's more-or-less like the original one they bought.

I bought a walnut Hatfield Special in 2017. While I love the feel and sound, my most recent purchase was a mahogany Yates RB-75. I branched out for the reasons you fear in your original post. I'm sure Arthur can create sound variations based on wood, etc., but the Yates sound definitely complements the Hatfield sound. The tone ring is different, and the Yates is significantly louder. I eventually want to get a maple banjo for the crisp, tight tones produced, but I may branch out yet again. Huber is on the shortlist. While I didn't answer your original question, this is my perspective on why I branched out. That said, you can't go wrong with any of these!

Sorry, not sure why my original post was repeated. The Yates felt slightly different at first, but nothing significant. The biggest different in terms of feel is the neck. Arthur's necks are lacquered and shiny, while Yates necks are made to look older like pre-war Gibsons, i.e. polished but no shine. This is an obvious statement, but I would try to get your hands on a Yates if possible so you can compare.
