Best Capo for Hatfield Special

From AaronATL on 5/31/2017 6:22:47 PM

I've been researching capos and read many reviews on this site, but what is the best capo you've come across for a Hatfield?  I've only owned the banjo a few months, but I'm pretty sure there is no radius to it.....definitely looks flat.  Eliott seems to be the cream of the crop, with a pricetag to match.  I'm fine paying for quality, but curious what others have found to work best.  Also, I don't feel the need for a capo that can reach higher than the 5th fret.  Thanks!

I don't have an answer for you. Arthur sells a capo and there are threads on the hangout talking about which capos is best. I dont' know why one would be good for another banjo but not for a Hatfield.

Thanks. That was my assumption, but all necks are different. I'll likely follow the general reviews on this site.

I use the 'Showcase' by Bill Stokes that is the 'C' style. Pricey but works great and very similar to others such as Elliott, McKinney, etc.

I have one of Arthur's capos and it's really nice. It was kinda pricey but it's always dead on. Maybe because I play an Hatfield and his fits his particular neck, not sure but I like it

Breck,
Makes sense. I don't know Arthur to do anything that is waste of time, not quality, or without great thought. So if he makes a capo, I would imagine it to be tops.

I have a Hatfield and have been very happy with it. To me, it is worth it to have his initials on it. Makes me trust it a little bit more.

Just to close the loop, I ended up buying the Elliott Elite 1.4" capo. It's not cheap, but it works great. Great sound, and easy to use.
