I just got my first gourd banjo from David Prat

From Seppo Sillanpaa on 4/23/2016 9:19:30 AM

Hi gourd folks,

I just received a very nice gourd banjo from David Prat who makes banjos in Barcelona. Before he attached the skin(s) he told me that it was 75% humidity in Spain and I told him we in Southern Finland had only 25% at the moment in my music room.
Everything went well and DP also sent me an extra bridge and extra skin in case I have problems in the future. That was fair.
It is an excellent banjo. I've just had it for a couple of days ago and I am slowly getting used to a new playing position and Aquila strings after spending all spare time with my steel string openbacks..

It resonates fine and the deep bottom is unbelievable.
I am very excited about the new banjo and curious of what kind of a bridge is the most optimized to keep both the clarity and deep tone.
It definitely needs the mass that David put there.

I'm excited for you Seppo! Post some pictures and maybe a little soundclip or video when you can! :)
I believe the bridges made of thick softwood like pine or cedar are better than hard thin bridges...for minstrel or gourd nylon strung banjos. The softwood bridges are supposed to create more resonance on these type banjos.
