Just over a year ago I replaced the original guitar-style tuners with a set of Golden Gate P140 planetary tuners. They are decent quality tuners and were reasonably priced, but the large pearloid buttons didn't match the ivory colored button on the fifth string. I finally got around to replacing the buttons with ivory-colored ones. I got the new buttons from Janet Davis Music for $1.25 each plus shipping. And tho nothing on a banjo is as easy as it looks, it was not a difficult job. The replacement buttons were a perfect fit for the Golden Gate shafts. The original Deering fifth string tuner had a smaller shaft, so I made a tiny shim from credit card plastic. And I added leather washers to the four GG tuners. So far they seem to be staying in tune better than they did before. The combination of ivory buttons and leather washers give a very nice old fashioned look to the tuners, which fits well the Goodtime Classic name. I'll be uploading a picture of the finished project now.
