Goodtime Classic Special Open Back Question

From disneykid52 on 9/14/2011 10:13:09 PM

The bridge on my banjo is set at an angle. Can anyone tell me if the bridge is glued to the head in any way? It has quite a slant to it and I think it must be glued?

The banjo has beautiful tone and is a joy to play. Just wondered about the bridge for a long time.

Thanks in advance for any info or insights.

Your bridge shouldn't be and probably isn't glued. The downwards pressure of the strings holds it down. I've read that some people do put a spot of white glue on the head next to the bridge though.

I had a question about the bridge slanting - some said towards the tailpiece and some the other way. The Deering manual shows the "GT" stamp on it towards the neck.

Sometimes the bridge will be at an angle. Check the harmonics on the 12th fret.
The Goodtime manual on the Deering website has some instructions for adjusting the bridge.

All the Goodtimes come with the head slanted toward the tailpiece. If you go to the Deering site you can access their manual which explains this. Aftermarket bridges may be constructed differently and may have other installation criteria I suppose. Happy pickin".

oops - After only 2 months I realized I had a typo in my post. The "bridge" is slanted not the "head" - Duh, my bad.
