A cheap armrest cover for Goodtimes

From yumagah on 7/20/2011 7:07:07 AM

In these hot summer days I sweat very heavily, and this tends to discolor the nickel plating on my Goodtime. Especially on the armrest.  I was thinking about replacing the metal armrest with a wooden one but they cost more than I would spend for such a small improvement.   So I bought some clear vinyl tubing, anywhere from 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch diameter, cut it to size and slid it over the armrest. It's practically invisible, holds fast with no adhesive, and keeps the metal from tarnishing.  It's also cheap, only about three dollars for ten feet of tubing. So if it starts to get dirty I can just cut another piece and replace it.

yeah I was looking at a wooden arm rest for my Goodtime but I saw that the prices for some of em were like over U$S 100... vinyl tubing...like a bicycle inner tube....I am in Argentina...can you post some pics of it and share it with the folks here?

Matt - Another question..kinda off topic: "have you ever played any of the Goodtime Special Open backs? If so what did you think? This may be my next banjo one day in the future.

I have a Goodtime II Special. I leave the resonator off with just the flange attached and play it as a open back most of the time. I have to stuff a rag in it as it's LOUD compared to a regular Goodtime. I bought 4 of those resonator thumb screws that someone on the BHO sells which makes it easy to go back and forth. I take it you're liking your new Goodtime.
