RailRoad spikes on Goodtime Banjos for capoing the 5th string

From erikforgod on 5/21/2011 1:35:11 PM

Hi guys - I am going to purchase my Goodtime in the beginning of June in the states to bring back to Argentina with me. These banjos dont come from Deering with a RR spike at the 7th fret for capoing in "A" do they? From what I can tell they dont. Also...are these tricky to install, or would I be better off paying a little extra and having the guys at Banjo.com ( where I will buy the banjo ) do it for me?

My Deering (not special) has railroad spikes at the 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th frets.

I know some Goodtimes come with spikes. The Classic Goodtime 2 does: deeringbanjos.com/classic-goodtime-2

You can always call them to ask, of course. (800) 845-7791

I put a Schubb sliding 5th string capo on my Special. So far I really like it. Some folks say it interferes wuith their thumb but I haven't experienced that yet. Super convenient to use and easy to install. I put the screw end that goes on the 12th fret over the position marker and use the screw as the top marker (2 on the 12th). Know you're gonna love your new Goodtime.

I would just have the fine folks a Banjo.com do the spikes for you.

I just spoke with Marc over at Banjo.com in Marietta ( great bunch of folks over there ) he said hell spike my Goodtime at the 7th fret for me "free of charge" but I have to purchase it first before he spikes it...because if he does it before hand, and I dont buy it, he cant sell it becuase its been altered. Gonna talk to mama and see if we cant order it early have it shipped to the house and that way when I arrive it´ll be there waiting for me ,) Really nice bunch of folks there at banjo.com..they have been really easy to work with :)
