I still have the strings on my 300 from when I bought it a few weeks ago. They appear to be light - almost too light from a "feel" point of view, but I am not knowledgeable enough to know what it does to the sound. I will probably put mediums on. What kind of strings are you guys using, and what sound are you looking for with them?

	Stardust says: 11/17/2013 1:45:47 PM G, My GF-300 still has the factory-issue strings on it too (nickel wound 4th), and I agree, they seem to be a bit too light. I'm going to be swapping-out the stock Presto tailpiece with a gold-plated Kershner soon, and at that time, I plan on installing a heavier set of strings, but I'm not sure on the exact gauges yet. As I'm sure you know, the published factory specs for the GF-300 do not include the gauges of the original issue string set, but I'll probably go with something like the medium gauge stainless steel set of GFS #PF-180s = 10-24w-16-13-11 (gDGBD).
5revived says: 2/17/2014 12:41:12 PM I run GHS PF185 Almost Medium on my GF85. .010,.011,.013,.020,.010 The 85 seems to like this set the best.
	Hankon5 says: 3/5/2014 11:42:11 AM 2009 GF-100 HF. Fults Cumberland TP and Tim's Piano bridge. I did upgrade the tone ring to a TN 20 and as Randal Wyatt Beech block rim. These upgrades have really made my Gold Star a KILLER!. I consider my ax to be a Gold Star even with the hardware upgrades! I keep my banjo clean and ding free as possible, I love my banjo. Saga does make pretty good stuff!
	Hankon5 says: 3/5/2014 12:02:38 PM I run AMB cryo's of 10 1/2 11 12 22w 10 1/2 for the tone I like. The black Weather King head also gives me a bit more treble that I like. Just recently, I switched back to raising the flange (using a Stewmac T) back up to it's normal position on the upper lip of the reso . It took all this time to find out that I like the more "fuller" sound than that of the shallower treble sound that Earl did to his earlier axes. I'm a happy camper!
	Ric in Richmond says: 12/28/2014 4:06:15 AM PF 140 JD crowes. All I have ever used on advice of a well respected luthier. He sets up Gibson prewar clones with no logo Remo heads, presto TP and PF140's.
