1925 Flange Set Up

From Fathand on 9/8/2011 9:37:53 AM

My 1925 Gibson Has a tube and plate style Flange but the plate is in 2 pieces, each almost a half circle. Does anyone else have one like that too or is your plate in one piece.

I was guessing this might be to make it easier to remove the plate to play open back as it is also designed that you only have to remove half the hooks and can leave the head tight to remove the flange with half the holes being large enough for the hook nuts to pass through..

I have a 1926 TB-3 that I had a 5 string neck build for and it has a 2 piece flange. I think the 25's & 26's were this way. I am not an expert, that is just my understanding.

To clarify, mine has a tube and 2 plate pieces or a 3 Piece Flange? Or did someone cut my plate in Half?

I've only seen a one piece (plate/flang) and one piece (tube). I've have a 25 and a 26 now and had another 26 years ago. Also, I noticed that the flang had every other hole drilled larger on one banjo, so you could take off every other hook and remove the flange. I'll have to check the other two that I have now to see if they are the same, but I don't have them with me at the moment. (I'm in Calif right now and my banjo is in Colombia).

I have see 2 piece flanges before like you described but on other banjos.

Sooooooo to answer your question... I don't know. : )
