The tabs I post are mostly tunes I arranged for banjo using sheet music from the session.org, learned from recordings or learned from other players. There is a good chance I dont play them the way I originally tabbed them anymore. Some fingerings may be tricky, I encourage you to find options that suit your style.

Also highly recommend getting recorded versions of the tunes. You'll probably have to listen to a couple versions to get the melody down. The ornamentation and phrasing of good players can vary so much that it might be hard to recognize a tune for the inexperienced. Youtube is a good resource for multiple versions of the same tune.

If you aren't familiar with the music you really have to listen to get the stylistic nuances and rhythm down. Work on single string playing, especially playing triplets on a single string (all the way to the 4th!)

The "/" symbol before a note and/or a "c" above it stands for "cut" and it is basically a very fast pull off to the note youre after. You should be familiar with the sound if you listen to irish trad.

I hope others will post their arrangements, I like seeing how others approach the music as it is not so common on 5 string as to have a set style. This is one of the appealing aspects to me.

I also compared how I played it (from the dots) compared to your tab. About 80% is the same; the other 20% is mainly where I choose to use different strings/frets to play the same notes; however, your tabs did , in some cases, give me an alternative that was a little more economical of movement. Your tabs allow someone who can't read sheet music to dive straight in (as long as they had a Youtube, MP3 file or midi of the tune to play along with . preferably at different sppeds as they get used to the tune and progress).
	mikey5string says: 5/15/2012 7:14:40 AM Im glad you used the tab more as a starting point than a definitive arrangement. I dont even play a lot of the tunes the same anymore. Along the way Ive found better fingerings or different phrasing. I think doing stuff like this is great for my playing, it leads to all sorts of discoveries and "a-ha!" moments. The same passage can be played several different ways, all over the neck, while still maintaining the melody of the tune. Go ahead and record yourself and link it to the group. It would be nice to have mp3 references for the tabs. Plus id like to hear your take on the tunes. thanks mike
