I got to meet JD Crowe.

We got to the venue before the band had arrived from the airport, so my friends and I dropped off the two basses we brought went and had something to eat. When we came back they were on stage doing a sound check. We brought 2 basses because Jerry McCoury asked that the strings be 15mm off the neck and we were not sure if one of the basses was set up like he wanted, and we knew the other bass had a higher action but looked really beat up. Anyway He liked the beat up one becauase the string height was like he preferred. However during the sound check he was having problems keeping it in tune because he said the bridge was warped. So after they finished, we took the bridge off both basses and swapped them, luckily they fit without issue and they were all very pleased with the sound. 

Then Bobby Hicks came over and told us to take the warped bridge and soak it in water and it should return to its original form and to be sure to let it dry before trying to putting it back on a bass. He was a very nice guy. Very sociable.

Del was busy getting everything ready and we didnt get to meet him before the show.. Bobby Osborne was not real friendly either, not unfriendly. Just a guy doing his thing, and JD Crowe was busy too.

The show was absolutely fantastic! The coolest thing about it was it was many of the songs they did were songs I have been working on with Al. lol. They did Blue Ridge Cabin Home, (JD sang baritone!), I'll never shed another tear, your love is like a flower, pain in my heart (Bobby Osborne said it was the first song he ever wrote) and several others too. JD also played Foggy Mountain Breakdown as a request from the audience and Ground Speed. which was killer. Bobby Hicks on the fiddle though was just mind blowing. He brought the house down when he did Orange Blossom Special. Bobby Osborne did Rocky Top as the closing number. It wasn't the best rendition I ever heard of it but he is 82 years old and it's BOBBY FREAKING OSBORNE! lol

After the show we went back stage to collect our instruments. Jerry McCoury thanked us profusely. My friend Cheri (The bass was hers) asked him if he would introduce me to JD. He said sure and went and brought JD over and introduced me. After I stopped screaming like an adolescent girl at a Beatles show...(Not really) he shook my hand and thanked me for coming the the show. I was star struck and didn't know what to say and he walked off before I could get a picture with him. I got to talk to Del and Jerry a bit and Bobby Osborne was standing there with Del looking kind of grumpy. My friends were trying to chat him up but he didnt really have much to say. Del mentioned that Bobby did the Grand Old Opry on friday, A show in Ft Lauderdale or somewhere down that way on Sat night (his birthday) and last nights show. I looked at Bobby Osborne and kinda pointed my thumb at Del and said "You mean these guys made you work on your birthday?" and he actually smiled and he said "Yeah, I had to work on my birthday." and they all laughed. That was the highlight of the night for me.

The one thing I noticed about these guys musically was that they made everything they did look effortless and easy and they laughed and joked around with each other while they were playing and I really think they were having fun.
