Finally...a new song!

Tuesday, February 18, 2014

All right, it's taken me a few weeks but I've finally progressed far enough and managed to twist and cajole enough correct notes and to otherwise mangle a classic American folk song into something recognizable as Cumberland Gap well enough to be given another song for my next lesson...Foggy Mountain Breakdown!

FMB?  That's got to be like Pick up the Pieces for saxophone players, that song is one of the main reasons I picked up the banjo in the first place and now I'm learning it barely a month since I first brought the instrument home.

I'm sure Cripple Creek and Cumberland Gap will suffer as I work to get that signature lick down, now we're talking banjo!

Still thinking about getting a mute, since I've been practicing later in the evenings, and may start early in the mornings as well.

I don't even think about the picks any more although I feel them coming off after a couple of hours of practice.

I've also tried to incorporate Band in a Box into my practice sessions, but it's leaving me behind on even the slowest BPM's.

More to come,  FMB! Ya boooey!
