Startin my own jam

From loukiii on 11/12/2013 12:55:44 PM

Well it is such a pain in the ass finding people to pick with that I finally decided to hell with it. I'll start my own bluegrass jam and they can come to me.

I put an ad on craigslist 2 weeks ago to find out if there was any interest and I actually have 10 people interested. So my first jam is going to be this Thursday from 7 - 9 pm,

Hope it works out.

I know what you mean. I was all excited when I met you at the Soggy Bottom pig roast and that was pretty much a bust. Of course I should have made arrangements to stay longer into the evening. I have the Ocoee jam just a few miles from where I live, but that tends to get real big this time of year and I don't want to be competing with 6 banjos, 12 guitars, etc.

I've been wanting to find a small group that is interested in jamming. My main thing is just finding the time.

Al said something about Dec. 16?

There is a luthier I know that lives here. He plays a mean guitar and sings. His wife plays doghouse bass. That's a good start to a bluegrass band. The problem is once again, Ron is busy, I'm busy...no time, no time. I've been wood shedding long and hard. It's coming together.

Did you see my avatar photo? Al took this at his house a couple of weeks ago when I was there for a lesson.

I have to postpone the cookout/jam till January because my wife's company Xmas party is that weekend.
As far as competition from other banjos yeah I know what you mean. Just wow them with your mad skills and platinum blonde hairdo lol.

LOL. Cool man, I'll plan on seeing you in Jan. Let me know the plans and what I need to bring.

I'll try to make it to some of your jams, but that's a long way to go on a Thursday night. I used to jam on Thursday nights at the Bluegrass Parlor in Temple Terrace, but I lived a few blocks away.

We were sitting in there one Thursday night in a circle and in walked John McEuen. We all put out instruments away and sat and had a private performance.

Then one Thursday night the same thing happened and it was John Hartford. He had his little piece of plywood he did the soft shoe on while playing. He was doing a concert at Skipper's Smokehouse and stopped by the BG Parlor. That was COOL!.

Oh wow. That must have been awesome. I missed the Bluegrass Parlor. It was closed before I got the bug. Wish I would have saw the light sooner. lol
I purposely did not publish my address because I don't want hillbilly pickers just wanderin in off the streets. What would the neighbors think?

Gosh, that was in 94-95 and I was just starting on banjo. Tom Henderson of the BG Parlor did a lot to promote Bluegrass. And now here it is so many years later and I feel like I'm still just starting out on banjo. :)

From Clermont to Valrico:

SR-33 S to I-4 W 64.84 miles
1 hour 18 mins / 1 hour 18 mins based on current traffic
