Tranjo

From mcaple on 5/20/2013 4:41:40 PM

Hi everyone,

Thinking about getting a tranjo and just wondered if anyone had any experience/feed back on them. Have tried flying with my banjo twice and each time the case looks a bit more dented but I guess at the moment it isn't the banjo that's getting dented.

Thanks

I had a tranjo which was pretty nice but certainly did not play like a premium banjo (I have a Stelling, Deering and Nechville). I sold the tranjo and bought a Nechville Atlas which has the bolt on neck so it can be carried on. The nice thing about the Atlas is it is light, can be picked with pretty good results and the neck is very good.

You could just get a carbon fiber or fiberglass case for your existing banjo for half the cost? Those things are pretty indestructible.

I've got the Tranjo, and I love it! It's not like a Stelling, but it's not meant to be. It's a great travel banjo that allows you to have something to practice with on the road. It's the size of a tennis racket in the provided gig bag, and I've had no problems putting it in overhead bins. Recommend it highly.

Thanks for the responses. The Nechville Atlas does look interesting but the ones I looked at were over twice the price if the tranjo. A durable case would work but would still mean putting the banjo in the hold and airlines are getting more and more irksome with instruments in the hold. As soon as I saw the "Recommend it highly" comment I guess it tipped me over the edge and when I contacted Sam who said he had one part finished I was sold. Anyway when it arrives I will tell whoever is interested my thoughts on the new toy.

Many thanks
