Thought a thread on Band In A Box could be a good place to share helpful tips going forward. I am using a 2005 version but I assume a lot of the menus are the same as the latest.
Sorry after posting this I thought I could give a screen shot of my settings but I cannot see how you do it so cannot answer thelongcarabine question about drum settings. I have my setting set to "melody" which gives a feel of sort of having a group with you.

I also have an older version - probably around 2005. I haven't used it a lot, simply because I have not done much with learning banjo period (until starting lessons late last year.)
That's not to say it's not a great tool. I've used it on occasion lately, and can see using it more as I progress.

Great idea mcaple, just wanted to say that just now, I'll look further into my biab. Screen shot would be great idea, because I imagine the biggest problem with getting help is describing what you've got in front of you.
I have the real tracks and as I said that all sounds great, it's just the rhythm of the drums that I don't feel is right but the options I have are limited. I'll need to relearn what I was doing with it.
As al says, its like practicing with a band, that never gets tired and doesn't drink the beer in your fridge.

I finally learned how to use it to listen to beaching tracks. Now I want to use it to record me playing along to a backing track. Anyone know how to do that? I want to be able to use my headphones to hear the track, while recording through my microphone and getting both the track and my banjo on the recording.

Loukii why not just play through the speakers not the headphones then everything is recorded.

I use a little set of computer speakers, but my poor little Hondo has a hard time competing even with those.
I think it's fair to say *I* suck MORE than you :-)

I figured out that if you click on audio and record you can record over the track and when your done it gives the option to keep or retake. Click keep and the you can playback and hear yourself with the track. Just don't save it unless you want to 'save as' and rename it the you can post it or whatever. I am having the problem that I think I sound great while I'm making the recording but when I play it back it sounds like my timing is off, kinda like a slinky lol too fast too slow too fast.
Practice practice practice.
