That's a good one. Every since I heard it on the Will The Circle Be Unbroken album I've always wanted to play it. I was thrilled when Al it gave it to me and I found that I could actually play it.
This is a cool. You're into the Jimmy Martin songs. The next level.

Good tune. Hard enough to be interesting, easy enough to be able to use it sooner rather than later.
Timing is a little tricky in a couple spots, I love the D stuff at the endings.
It appears to me that Jimmy Martin song breaks on the verse never quite match the timing of the vocal verses so when backing up you really have to pay attention to the singer as they tend to stretch things out a little in places. (and at most jams nobody has a clue so you finish your break before everyone else is finished backing you up because they are singing the song in their head instead of listening to you. lol)

This is what makes lessons with Al so interesting. You go through the progression and by the time you get to the Jimmy Martin songs such as Sunny Side Of The Mountain, You Don't Know My Mind and Hit Parade Of Love you move to another level. And Al talks about the pickers that have played for Jimmy and what an education that is for a banjo player.
A Study of J.D. and Sonny (Old Home Place and Cabin Home On The Hill) is a natural off shoot of the Jimmy Martin stuff and it all ties back to Earl.

We were doing 'Sunnyside of the Mountain' which followed after' You Dont know my Mind' todaaay. I had just read the 'King of Bluegrass' book... Jimmy didnt like Ricky Scaggs.. so was pretty enthusiastic about all things Jimmy... during the lesson Al's phone went.. this time is wasn't a windows system restore.. and Al said on the phone hey Im just here with my student Crawford and were doing 'Sunnyside of the Mountain' and then Al says to me... guess whos on the phone? of course I didnt know... then Al said it Jimmy Martins Banjo player! and for the next half hour Brian told tales of Jimmy Martin which they couldnt put in a book...very funny and very enjoyable.. it was a real treat.
