just joined BHO...nice place to poke around.

I bought a used MB 200 (on impulse while I was browsing in a local music store) a year ago and started on the task of learning to play...need to practice more.

In the meantime, after about 6-8 months, I bought a Goldtone OB250 (with modifications, I think) off ebay...and wow...what a difference. I thought the MB200 was great but when playing the OB250 (with a tone ring) it was like another world.

Anyone have this experience?

Rather than get another 5-string banjo, I've put a lot of energy into hot-rodding my MB 200 to play the way I want it too. I'm sure that wouldn't work for most ( or everybody would be doing it), but it floats my boat, banjo-wise. Have fun with the OB250. If it prompts you to play more, it's the right one for you.

But like Klondike Waldo, I put my energy into hot rodin my MB 250, the reason for this is my wife would kill me if I go out and a banjo worth 2 grand. Plus it is fun to figure out what u can do to get the best sound out of ur banjo.

	Klondike Waldo says: 7/23/2012 4:29:00 AM No offense taken, Barry. I didn;'t think you were bad-mouthing the MB200 ( and wouldn't be hurt if you did). If we all liked the same type of banjo, there'd only be one. I suppose if banjo were my main focus musically, I'd be looking to up-scale as well, but it's not and I'm not and I'm satisfied with my bottlecap. In the meanwhile, as you're learning to love (or is it loving to learn?) your OB250, You can practice your tinkering on the MB200 and learn how to get more sound out of less banjo without mucking about on your Gold Tone too much. We each have our tastes and priorties- it's all good. Enjoy the journey.
