I have played string instruments all my life, but the banjo is a new and STRANGE thing... nothing like a guitar.
Clawhammer seems like the road I will go down because I like the sound and it seems like a easier path than sparks flying off of steel picks. Old and slow makes more sense to me, especially in my retirement years.
I bought a Deering Vega Little Wonder with the 12' pot. It has a wonderful mellow tone with a nice sustain. I hope the neighbors will forgive the "brake in" period.
And the most wonderful thing is that Deering Banjos is just a mile from my house. I can take the factory tour and visit all cousins of my Little Wonder... and it is a way cool tour.
BTW: My profile photo is "Cleaned-up" Dr. Dave... I am a retired Anthropologist that talks on cruise ships and locally in San Diego. And learning the banjo.
