I got my new Deering scooped Goodtime Classic Banjo yesterday. I took it out of the box, looked it over, uprighted the bridge, began tuning it . . . and over tightened the G string-- POP! Needless to say I was horrified. However, I had an extra G string (for my Gold Tone mini), so I replaced the broken one and then CAREFULLY tuned it. Then I played for awhile to calm myself down. Oh, the broken string will still fit on the mini GT, so nothing was wasted. The new banjo sounds good to my old ears, so a guess all is well -- except it makes as many mistakes as the old one did. Ahhh, well . . .
