Rim swap yay or nay

From momo on 10/17/2015 4:17:14 AM

I'm curious I have a 2004 Deering with the Hard Maple rim.. do yall think it would improve if I swap the rim for the new style Violin grade Maple .. or would it be a waste of money.. because Maple is Maple.I need some advise  before I go ahead with the swap.

I've wondered the same thing. Let me know if you do it. I had the chance to swap out the rim on my GE when I had the 06 tone ring installed. Wouldn't have been much more cash, but was too cheap. I was inspired to swap the ring when I played a new GE with the new rim and ring and was really impressed. I thought the difference was the ring only, but maybe the rim was important too. The new ring was with it: sounds great. Maybe I should have gone for the rim too.

It would be a waste of money, in my opinion.

I actually emailed Deering about swapping the rim on my Tenbrooks legacy several weeks ago. Barry told me that several of their endorsers have swapped rims and loved the results. Still tempted!
Which banjo is Andy playing these days? I'm in Southern California but haven't seen his band play in a number of years.
He's a great player.

I don't know we need more info before we swap. its not inexpensive thing to do..I was surprised how much it cost to do that.
