Nice Danno. I've got two with about the same age spread. My Gumby has a hard edge fret board and nut. The new one's fretboard is eased on both sides and the nut is eased on the #1 string side. Same for you?

I Guess you're right about the Fretboard, kinda hard to tell on mine but the Nut on the Old one definitely appears slightly different than the New one, Being 10 years old when I bought it, who knows if it was changed. the RIMS are definitely the Big Factor I wanted to show. I Love them Both.. Looking at a Goodtime 2 Now.

Do a visual check before paying on the GT2. My early GT2 resonator was held on by screws with a wood pitch into nylon anchors that were embedded into blocks of wood glued to the side of resonator. The wood blocks were splitting or falling off. Your choices are follow the pattern or change to a different mount system. I bought 4 Deering Thumb Screw and Block sets from Deering deeringbanjos.com/collections/hardware and replaced the original setup. Just figure this into the total cost when you look at a GT2 with the old system.

Great Insight, thanks for sharing, appreciate it. Is this problem just with the older Gumby Heads and was it corrected with the newer models?

The easy tell is can you unscrew it with fingers or do you need a Phillips head screwdriver?

OK, thanks again for the Heads Up on this, I will most certainly keep my eye out for it and if and when I land one, I'll be sure to enter a Post.

Just to clarify, the phillips head on the screw is NOT an indication of the resonator mounting system. My old gumby head GT2 has phillips head machine screws that thread into brass lugs which are screwed directly into the inside wall of the resonator. There is no wood pieces or plastic inserts or wood screw threads. Best to remove resonator and have a look inside anyway before you buy any used banjo.

How does the older tonering on a 2004 Calico compare with one with the 06 tonering, is there a great difference or only slight.
