Who uses a black head on thier Deering ?

I currently have a medium crown black sued head on my 95 Deering. I like the fact that it doesn't settle and I don't have to Keep check on the nuts to see if they've loosened.

I am considering one of the Deering black heads and was wondering what people's experiences might be with the black Deering head.

	pft573 says: 6/2/2014 2:10:17 PM Hi Kirby I have a Black Diamond with a gloss black head. It's the best sounding banjo I own. I don't know if it's due to the head. I really like the looks of it though. The only down side is it shows every fingerprint. I solved that problem with a small piece of black leather that is attached to the head with two pieces of double sided tape. This also helps keep my fingers planted as the gloss head is very slick. 	Renebq says: 6/2/2014 3:51:59 PM I've too have been thinking of putting one on my Eagle, but have been discouraged by a few folks including someone at Deering. I've been told that is gives a deeper more mellow tone with some loss of the treble tones. Also, keeping the bridge from moving about is something to remember.
	kirbonite says: 6/2/2014 4:16:48 PM the suede head has some traction but the bottom frosted mylar would be slick. You have to really get the tension high on the suede around.. 100 . and the tension hoop may not seat enough but I like the sound a lot. Elderly has a 2ply Ebony head but I'm sure that would mellow out the sound BUT increase the sustain.. it's all in what you're looking for. the big advantage to the suede is not dealing with settling.
