Big Deering & Calico fan

From roadstar75 on 1/17/2014 12:11:01 AM

I visited the Deering  factory and did the tour along with 4 other friends.  Own a Goodtime Classic II and a new Deering calico.  Not only that but my teacher is also on board with Deering and is a seller of Deerings.  So no doubt a big fan of Deering products.  The new Calico is a very well built and great sounding instrument no doubt about it.  It is way beyond my skill level but something to grow into for sure.

Visiting the Deering factory is on my bucket list, too, although since I live in the southeast, I may never get there. I have a Deering Deluxe and 2 Goodtimes, and think they're great instruments, and I appreciate the fact that they're American made by a small business enterprise. Kudos to Greg and Jan for what they've been able to accomplish. Stan

I'll never say never to getting out the the Deering Factory. In the meantime I enjoy my 2011 Golden Era and like you Stan, it will take me the rest of my life to grow into this magnificent axe. Happy new years to all my Deering-owning brethren!

The people at Deering seem awesome, Carolina Bridges in customer support has been great helping me out as I have bought a Baucom and Vega Senator. I am from Van BC, but if I am ever in San Diego, the tour is on my list of things to do.

Maybe someday I can also go on that tour but I live in Canada. I too choose between the Calico and the Golden Era and either is a very good banjo. For me, the Calico one and it is nice to know that I will probably never be good enough to ever outgrow it!

Nice to hear from other Deering fans. I'm rather new to learning how to play a banjo, certainly a challenge. Thanks for the comments.

I have a Deering Black Diamond and it's an incredible instrument. It has that classic beauty that I really appreciate. I would love to tour the Deering factory someday.

I've been a Deering fan since 2003 when I discovered (and purchased) my Goodtime 2. Couldn't believe its sound and playability...Still love it. Now have a Crossfire (big fun) and anxiously awaiting my next Deering, a new Calico from the "banjo playhouse" in California. I've taken the tour and it is a MUST DO for any banjo enthusiast. Deering truly has become the GREAT AMERICAN BANJO COMPANY in my humble opinion. :)

There are a series of videos of the Deering plant and making banjos on YouTube including a segment of made in America from a few years ago.

myork1-another Calico owner! I bought mine off Amazon and for a short time they had a really discounted price so I snapped it up. It is a very well made instrument.

I bought a Calico after playing a bunch and I've been enjoying her very much. This weekend I'm taking her up to pick up a Doc's Banjos bridge and see how that sounds on her.

My first good banjo was a Deering "Standard" which later became the "Sierra" I believe. I NOW OWN a "Hartford". Their banjos are great and when you buy one you get a lot more than a banjo. It comes with a group of people who are totally committed to pleasing their customers.
