Hi everyone, I am new to this group and new to banjo picking(never played any instrument actually). I started this journey 19 months ago and have enjoyed every step. I have a Goodtime Special resonator and have just acquired a new Vega Senator open back.

I love the Senator and really appreciate the great playability and reduced weight. My plan is to keep both instruments, using the Goodtime for jams.

Put a Lakota strap on the Senator, they are so soft!

Pick a string on a better sounding instrument and you get a better sound, and you didn't have to practice a lick to get it. A good sounding instrument will make your music sound better immediately. An instrument that is easier to make sounds on will help playing sound better and possibly speed improvement. Good sounding instruments also can begin to write their own tunes so be on the lookout for this happening. Be careful, though, good sounding instruments have a habit of stealing time.
	ildertongap says: 6/30/2013 6:28:51 PM Thanks for the encouragement guys. I understand exactly what you are saying Jim and it has started already. I am spending more time practicing and seem to spend a lot of time thinking about cord shapes, roll patterns and stuff.
