Hi all, new to this site and just bought a used Sierra yesterday. I checked the serial number and it shows that my banjo was built in February of 2007. The thing that's got me confused is that it doesn't appear to have the '06 tone ring. The guy I bought it from says he bought it in February of 06, and that its all original, yet the serial number is clearly for one built in 07! Did they continue to put the old style tone rings in after 06, or I just get one that had been swapped over? Or perhaps the serial number was wrong? doubtful. Any help much appreciated.

	barry104 says: 6/23/2013 4:40:17 AM Where did you buy the banjo from? I had a bad experience on ebay...basically the seller lied about the banjo and a call to the manufacturer cleared up some of the confusion. After filing a complaint with eBay it turned out ok for me.

I got a good price on it, and it sounds good enough, but this tone ring thing has me confused. The one on this banjo clearly has no holes in it, and the serial number is for 07, so it should have the 06, but doesn't.

	Tatersoup says: 6/25/2013 3:53:35 AM Deering CS. Tell them the serial number and they should be able to tell you how it was built and what tone ring was in it when it shipped.

	Janet Deering says: 7/1/2013 4:48:34 PM For about a year after starting the 06 Tonering we did not put holes in them. The holes feature came later. The new shape was the main feature that made the 06 Tonering. You have one of the first ones. Janet Deering

And thanks also for making such wonderful banjos! I've always loved the look and sound of your banjos. I really like mine and plan on keeping it my whole life, and I also plan on getting another Deering one day!

	pickn5 says: 8/28/2013 10:30:55 AM Thanks for posting this. I was confused on this issue also. I have a Sierra with the no hole 06 tone ring. It was built in Feb 07 also. Great banjo, love the sound, and it's my keeper.
