Looking for a new bridge for my Deering Golden Era

From Ragtimejoe on 6/14/2013 6:27:54 PM

I just got a 2008 Deering Golden Era today. Mint condition, no fret wear. I put a set of GHS 170's on it (same setup as Deering uses), The neck set up seems fine (totally flat and I'm fine with that).

I have a cheap .6325 bridge on it and it plays fine. I want to replace the cheap bridge with a good bridge that will have to be made.

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Joe

Get Steve Davis here on the hangout to build you one. He'll make it for the tone you want....otherwise, try them out....they are cheap enough, see what you like.

There are at least 6 Steve Davis's on the forum. Any other hints as to the real Steve Davis I'm looking for?

Get a Scorpion bridge. Best of several I tried on my Maple Blossom

I've heard that the Golden Era is very close in sound to the Calico. I use light strings with a 5/8" light Moon bridge. I like the Moon bridge because it can be positioned to exactly balance out the string length so that when you chord, and ring, the string at the 12th fret (17th fret for 5th string) you have the same note.

...I'm on my phone....not sure why it keeps potting the same message. Do a search in classifieds for Davis banjo bridge.

tkocason,

I found Steve and sent him an e-mail. I think I've got my new bridge under way. Thanks for your help.

Google Doc's banjos and check out his bridges. I've got one on my Whyte Laydie and it made a big difference. He's got some now designed for bluegrass and I'm definitely going to get one soon.
