I'm quite excited today!

I have been using a friends GoldTone Cripple Creek R banjo for the last two weeks but knew I could not keep it forever.

I am completely new to the banjo but I got hooked quickly.

I wanted an open back banjo and fell in love with the Goodtime model. Today I placed my order for one and for the next little while I will be glued to the front door awaiting it's arrival.

I updated the tuners to planetary tuners simply because guitar tuners just look silly on a banjo.

I hope to be spending some time in this group posting my questions and getting to know some of you fine banjo players.

I don't know much about the different types of banjo styles but I find myself completed drawn to the oldtime thumb lead 2 finger playing style.

I will be on the hunt for tabs and instructional material of this type.

I would appreciate any leads, comments or suggestions.

I hope that it is all you hoped for and that you have found an instrument that you enjoy playing through the years ahead. I play the Deering Sierra Tenor Banjo, myself, so I will probably be of little help to you as you progress, but I just wanted to wish you and your banjo well as you start the journey! John

Deering's a great company to deal with, prompt courteous, and excellent info when you need it. Good time is an excellent starting banjo in my opinion, you will be able to play any style you want. old time, 3 finger, etc. For clawhammer info, one of the finest instruction info I have found for clawhammer is Wayne Erbsen's , (Clawhammer for the complete ignoramus) you'll find it at nativeground.com there are many others just as good, this was my preference even after 8 years of playing. My then banjo teacher wanted me to buy a second hand Gibson. I stuck to my guns and bought the Deering Sierra I really liked the sound of. I remember how excited I was when I found a local music shop that stocked one! And, I remember how surprised my teacher was with how good a banjo it was! And the more I play the sweeter it sounds. 	theoldman says: 9/29/2012 3:05:19 PM Just a quick note to say that I have received my Goodtime! It took about three weeks but that doesn't matter anymore. It's here and that's all that matters. I'm loving it! great sound and that neck feels so comfortable (and solid).
