Eagle II set-up Part Dux

From momo on 6/23/2012 5:37:13 AM

With some experimentation, I have futher fine tuned my Eagle II. Ludwig head(5 star) tuned to G# in addition I switched out the Deering tailpiece & installed a Price SL-5 straight line Tailpiece, I had laying around from the 80's.The tone is more vibrant and clearer...if you don't have a Price Tailpiece, try a Kerschner..you might be surprised ...with the new dimension in tone.Good Luck! These Eagle II Banjos are really neat and at 10 lbs..it saves my back.

Next Part 3 will be focused on changing the bridge from the stock deering part.

I find the original Deering tailpiece better than anything out there. Out of all my banjo's the Deering' are the ones that give me the best tone and I refuse to screw with them. Why on heavens name would you want to screw with something that is perfect. If you want to screw with something buy a Recording King.

yeah, I have a new Calico and I must say, the tail piece seems solid. I think maybe they have improved them over the past few years. I'm not sure how much the tail piece affects the over all sound, as long as they are solid and don't make any over tones when tapped on. The Falts, IMHO is the most heavy duty I've seen, soif you have a week tail piece, you can't go wrong there, but i haven't had much experience with the others.

Well bridges I can understand cause some are brighter than others and they are a personal choice as to what sound you want out of your banjo but I have experimented with tailpieces on a Recording King I used to own and to he honest I never heard much difference between tailpieces .
