whats the cure

first of all hello to the group ,been a member a short while and allways wanted to learn to play banjo so new year bought a classic goodtime special was over the moon then reality work Finland no good case one trip later got one so now learning, cant play a song yet but am learning basic roll patterns ,and exercises for left hand for fretting,so why whats the cure ive gone and bought a calico, cant play the one i got but i wanted that one but what i would appreciate is advice re set up and dos and don'ts. don't know what it is about this instrument but ive got 2 in 6 months and booked to go to american banjo camp in september my first visit to the united states

darlo, I have a sosabe 5/8 bridge and a set of ghs light medium guage strings on my deering. Greg sosabe makes a great bridge. I also have one on my gibson bowtie with vega light guage strins. have the head tuned to a G .
I think they sound great.

haven't tried either yet will go on line and order with the strings are they the phosphor bronze type and is there any particular type of hard wood for the top of the bridge i really appreciate the help and advice thanks

Well, I just got a new Calico this week. It's doing pretty good right out of the case. I'll try some different setups soon...but, she's sounding sweet right now. Yahoo!

Yes I agree, I had a moon bridge on My Maple Blossom. I've got it on my Helix open back right now. I just ordered a spillway raised 5th string bridge for the Helix, so I can put the Moon on my Calico.

well picked up the calico last tuesday it is beautiful it was weird coz was practicing just going up and down the neck fingering on the good time and making plenty of mistakes when i did it on the calico first time not a one,have ordered various bridges and strings to play and tinker with on advice received wich was appreciated me thinks better walk before running its sounding great at the moment

Don't worry about it...enjoy the ride! Fine instruments are always fine instruments, junky one are always junky ones...enjoy.
