Hello fellow Deering fans.
I just joined the group and thought I would introduce myself. I recently retired and moved to Williamsburg, VA about a year ago, which was about the same time I started playing the banjo. I bought a Deering Goodtime to learn with, and after about 6 months sold it and bought a Sierra. Somewhere along the way, I switched to old time music and clawhammer style playing. I bought a Goodtime Classic, which I really like, to have a light weight practice banjo. I recently converted the Sierra to open back by replacing the resonator bracket flange with an open back flange from Rickard banjos up in Canada. The conversion was easy and resulted in an awesome open back. Check out my profile picture to see what it looks like.
Currently I play in a weekly jam group that plays a mix of music styles, and I am a member of an Appalachian Music group that also meets weekly.
At this point, I consider myself a solid intermediate level player.
Regards,
Richard Newsome
